Making the Dean of Extension and Culture (Proec) a showcase for Unicamp is the objective of Fernando Coelho, who took over command in April for the four-year period (2021-2024). The professor at the Institute of Chemistry (IQ), at Unicamp since 1987, gave an interview to the Proec Communication Directorate (DCom) team to introduce himself to the community and talk about his plans as Pro-rector of extension and culture at the University.
"The objective of our management is to further increase these interactions that the community has within the University, take the university to all parts of the metropolitan region of Campinas and above all take the university to other parts of the country", said the pro-rector. For him, extension plays an important role in generating knowledge and public policies, which can help develop the country and reduce the population's hardships.
Coelho cited the curricularization of extension as one of the priorities of his management. According to him, this process aims to incorporate extension activities into all university courses. He cited as an example the work developed by technology-based incubators, such as the Technological Incubator of Popular Cooperatives (ITCP) at Unicamp. "It is through this type of incubator that we can help all solidarity economy programs", he explained.
The pro-rector guaranteed the continuity of the programs and notices under development, pointing out them as fundamental to guarantee the participation of extension in all aspects of academic life. "It is these programs that allow the University to be present in the community and our objective is to increase this presence in a very significant way", he emphasized.
Coelho also signaled a possible rapprochement between extension activities and sports activities. "Perhaps it is something that allows the university to expand even further, especially towards the entire community of Campinas, especially the most needy", he stated.
