Unicamp maintained second place among Brazilian universities in the world ranking of British consultancy Times Higher Education (THE) 2022, released this Thursday (2). USP continues to lead among higher education institutions in Brazil. On the world stage, the leading institution is the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom.
THE evaluated more than 1.600 universities from 99 countries. Unicamp is in the group between 401-500. In Brazil, 59 educational institutions were considered. Of the 10 best-ranked Brazilian universities, nine are public universities.
In the Times Higher Education world ranking, 13 indicators are taken into account in five categories: teaching, innovation, internationalization, research and citations. The 2022 edition, highlights THE, shows that there was a significant improvement in position among universities that published research related to Covid-19, especially those in China.
In addition to the world ranking, THE also carries out other types of evaluations, such as the Latin America ranking. Unicamp, in this classification, was considered the third best Latin American university.
“The latest assessment by Times Higher Education reaffirms the success of public higher education in Brazil. Of the ten best-rated Brazilian universities, nine are public. UNICAMP maintained its position as second among Brazilian universities and third among Latin American universities. In a period of so much adversity, caused not only by the pandemic, but also by economic difficulties and the questioning, by parts of political power, of the role of science and knowledge, this is a very important achievement. Locating our weaknesses and seeking to overcome them must be our future goal to advance positions in these assessments”, points out the rector of Unicamp, Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles.
