The finalists for the Unicamp Entrepreneur of the Year Award, 2021 edition, were announced last Wednesday, October 13th (full list below). For the first time, female entrepreneurship will be highlighted among the prior submission categories. The “Female Leadership” category was created to encourage Unicamp’s daughter companies led by women, in order to increase female representation in the awards.
The Entrepreneur Award is promoted by the Unicamp Innovation Agency, in partnership with the group of entrepreneurs Unicamp Ventures, and aims to honor good initiatives and honor the talent of entrepreneurs leading the University's daughter companies. There are four specific categories: Innovation, Social Impact, Female Leadership and Greater Growth (scale-up).
By winning in these categories, competitors qualify to compete for the title of Unicamp Entrepreneur of the Year. You pitches will take place during the Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting, on October 21st, starting at 16:30 pm, and will be broadcast live via Zoom. During the event, we will find out who will win the trophy, in addition to R$50 in marketing services (Sinapro table value), offered by the sponsor, Agência Sabiá.

Socio-environmental impact: S Cosméticos do Bem
AS Cosméticos do Bem is a technology-based company that has been carrying out research in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical areas for ten years. The company was born with the purpose of creating innovative, truly sustainable dermophytocosmetics, using clean technologies, with maximum use of plant raw materials. A startup created seven quality seals that indicate care taken with the production chain. In 2020, it launched the first sustainable dermophytocosmetic on the Brazilian market registered by ANVISA and was one of the TOP 10 winners by 100 open startups.
The company was founded by Soraya El Khatib. Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a PhD in Biochemistry from Unicamp, she is responsible for coordinating analyzes and processes related to certification, improvement of formulations and extraction. The company seeks to demonstrate that the use of agricultural raw materials obtained by supercritical extraction and standardized by mass spectrometry are viable for the production and commercialization of toxicity-free dermocosmetics on a scale, without harming the environment or negatively impacting health.
Innovation: Hal9000
Unicamp's daughter company that won this year's Innovation category was Hal9000, a startup specialized in industrial safety, with technological solutions for monitoring predictive maintenance for the food, automotive, textile, chemical sectors, among others. The company developed a WiFi sensor and Artificial Intelligence software for industry 4.0 that calculates the predictability of machine failure and generates automatic information about the need for maintenance and purchase of materials, avoiding unexpected stops in a production line.
The person who will present the success story is the company's co-founder, Paulo da Silva Soares, master and doctor in Electronics from Unicamp and professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering at Centro Universitário Salesiano (UNISAL) in Americana. He is the technical project manager and financial manager of the business. In 2020, Hal9000 was among the 3 startups winners of the All4Foods challenge with 4.0 technology for the food industry.
Female leadership: epistemic
The winning success story in the Female Leadership category was from daughter company Epistemic. A startup develops tools to improve the lives of people with epilepsy. Among the products offered is an application for automatically collecting patient data, a Web platform that shares information with the doctor and a wearable device that alerts epileptic seizures 30 minutes in advance and sends reminders with medication times.
The company was founded by Paula Gomez, a graduate and postgraduate at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC), and her mother, Hilda Cerdeira, who was a professor at the Institute of Physics (IFGW) at Unicamp. Based on Hilda's research with electroencephalogram signals, Paula identified patterns of epileptic seizures and developed the technology. The engineer won the Cartier Women's Initiative Awards in 2018 and was a finalist at Samsung Creative Startups in 2019. Her company was selected for a trip to Korea and, last year, it was among the 21 classified in the FINEP Innovative Women's Award.
Greater growth: Diletta Solutions
Diletta works with the development of software for startups, whether to help accelerate business, generate MVP or teach mature companies how startups operate. The daughter company, based in the Unicamp Scientific and Technological Park, was created in 2018 and has practically tripled in size and revenue in the last three years, with the success of startups in which he maintains a shareholding.
Its portfolio includes clients such as IFood, OTAWA Health (leader in cancer treatment monitoring software and winner of IdeiaGov) and Capital Empreendedor, startup credit market for companies.
In 2020, Diletta invested in its own startup majority stakeholder, Diletta Pay. The company currently has 70 employees, of which 17 are partners. The revenue forecast for 2021 is 14 million reais. The person who will give the presentation will be the CEO of Diletta Solutions, Michel Cusnir, a graduate in Computer Science from Unicamp.

About the 16th Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting:
The Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting is the main connection event between entrepreneurs in the Unicamp ecosystem and students and researchers who want to learn about the world of entrepreneurship. Its first edition was held in 2006 and gave rise to the Unicamp Ventures group. The 16th edition of the Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting will take place on October 21st (Thursday) from 16:30 pm, broadcast via Zoom.
