The Institute of Advanced Studies (IdEA), in partnership with Unicamp's Executive Secretariat for Communication (SEC), will hold on December 22nd, at 13pm, the fourth and final assembly of the year of the Interdisciplinary Student Meeting 2022 (ENESIN22). The meeting is an opportunity for students, teachers and other professionals involved in the initiative to exchange ideas, learn about new proposals and invite people with common interests to join the teams.
The prospect of resuming in-person activities in 2022 should increase student engagement in the initiative, which seeks innovative solutions to contemporary problems through the formation of groups that include members from different courses. Started in September 2021, ENESIN22 will conclude with a ceremony in September 2022, with awards, diplomas and poster presentation.
Taking stock of this inaugural stage, the ENESIN22 organization considers that the assemblies had the primary function of providing the organizers and the university community with the first impressions, expectations and perspectives of the event. “The time has come to get our hands dirty. In the next assemblies, we will stimulate dialogue between all those registered in ENESIN22, facing the concrete difficulties encountered and looking for solutions within our reach”, said professor José Mario Martinez, president of the Scientific and Cultural Council of IdEA and one of the creators of the Meeting.
There are currently around 50 students registered, but the expectation is that the number will be increased with face-to-face assemblies and informal meetings between students and organizers, as registrations are open indefinitely.
Professor Isabella Tardin, deputy coordinator of IdEA, highlights that the project began in the middle of the pandemic, but, despite all the difficulties, there was significant and varied student participation. “I was pleased with the attendance of students from different institutes and research areas at Unicamp, and also with their enthusiasm, their interest in thinking in a multidisciplinary way about solving concrete social problems,” she declared. Tardin, who is a professor at the Institute of Language Studies (IEL), recalled some of the themes covered in the projects already registered, such as waste treatment in Campinas, the memory of inhabitants of occupied areas on the outskirts and assistance to mathematics students in public schools.
Despite a small reduction in the presence of students at the last assembly, on November 22nd, which Tardin attributes to the approaching end of the academic semester, she predicts an increase in participation in 2022, with meetings between ENESIN coordination, teachers and students , in a personalized way, in institutes, colleges and academic centers.
“I believe it will help a lot to disseminate, in each unit, to fellow teachers and also to students, what ENESIN is and what its potential is”, assesses the IEL professor. According to her, one of the possibilities is to provide resources for the integration of participants into different groups. “In any case, the results of the students’ first projects will certainly contribute to greater engagement at Unicamp.”
José Mário Martinez keeps the communication channel open with the coordination, through the email address enesin@unicamp.br, if groups need resources or suggestions on where to obtain funding for their projects. “ENESIN22 is a learning environment for both students and organizing entities. There are no infallible paths, or, as the poet said: 'The path is made by walking. ”
Vivian Xavier Silva, a second-year student in the Higher Interdisciplinary Training Program (PROFIS) at Unicamp, registered a project on the recovery of urban rivers and streams at ENESIN22. After researching the pollution of waterways in urban areas, the proposal is to seek solutions for their recovery and sanitation, including planting trees, creating community gardens and disseminating environmental care practices. She understands that the viability of the project will necessarily depend on direct contact with the community, bringing together potential interested parties, in addition to seeking the engagement of municipal authorities.
“I consider ENESIN a great initiative, an opportunity to learn, meet other people and other possibilities to improve the world. The assemblies are incredible, they help a lot in the development of the project, in the ability to interact with new things. The presence of teachers, who present their projects, is also very interesting”, praised the student. According to the PROFIS student, the monthly meetings are being useful to monitor the development of other groups, exchange ideas and structure what is being planned.
