The Unicamp 2021 Institutional Awards ceremony was marked by emotion. A particularly powerful moment was played by Ercília Resende, mother of the professor at Unicamp's Colégio Técnico de Campinas (Cotuca), Rafael Resende Maldonado, who died in April of this year as a result of Covid-19. She received the Teaching Recognition Award for Dedication to Secondary Technical Teaching from the executive director of Pre-University Education, Augusto César Silveira. The event took place at the Unicamp Convention Center and was attended by the rector, Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles, the general coordinator, Maria Luiza Moretti, pro-rectors, honorees, family and friends.
After the award ceremony, Professor Vera Lúcia Gomes, Associate Director of the College, gave a statement about Professor Rafael. She described her dedication to her students and to Cotuca and recalled that, at the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, Rafael was with a group of students traveling to Europe; At that moment, he managed to overcome the situation, leaving the students and parents safe until they returned home.
Recognition
Antonio Meirelles and Maria Luiza also paid tribute to Professor Rafael. The rector added that the ceremony would be “a milestone for Unicamp, as it is another stage in the resumption of in-person activities”. The event had a small audience and had online transmission via Canal Imprensa. Antonio Meirelles highlighted, among the awards, the one that honors professor Zeferino Vaz, one of the creators of Unicamp. “I was honored with this award at two points in my teaching career. It is a great emotion, similar to that of the honorees, to be able to make this contribution now as rector. This is the greatest recognition to everyone who makes Unicamp remain innovative, as was intended in its creation”, highlighted Meirelles.
The general coordinator also presented the “Zeferino Vaz” Academic Recognition Award to the teachers. In her speech, she highlighted the “collective effort, of teachers and employees, to keep Unicamp inclusive”. The coordinator recalled the times of adversity, and said that the University always seeks to maintain its level of excellence. “The award characterizes the brilliance of Unicamp and the recipients symbolize the light that makes our University one of the best in the world”, stated the professor.
The deans of Undergraduate Studies Ivan Contrera Toro and of Extension and Culture Fernando Coelho, the advisor of the Coordination of Centers and Centers (Cocen) Raluca Savu, the director Augusto César Silveira, the associate director of Cotuca Vera Lucia de Matos Pires Gomes and the director of the Technical College of Limeira (Cotil) at Unicamp José Roberto Ribeiro.
The categories were: Recognition Aacademic “Zeferino Vaz”; Recognition Professor from Dedication ao Education de Graduation; Award Proec de Extension University and Recognition Academic for Pesquisadores da Careers de Researcher. The two new awards, established in March 2021 by the University Council, are aimed at Teaching Recognition for Dedication to Secondary Teaching Technical and Recognition Student de Performance em US Training Technique of Schools technicians da Unicamp.
