The Unicamp Publisher, which has already donated 14 thousand books, continues until February 25th. Non-Governmental Organizations and institutions in the state of São Paulo, such as libraries and prisons, can forward requests. The largest donation, to date, was to the Department of Culture of the city of São Paulo. 7.229 copies were donated, which will enrich the municipality's neighborhood libraries.
Compared to the last campaign, there was a significant increase in the volume of donations. In 2020, 25 requests were made to the Publisher, totaling 6 thousand books sent. In 2021, there were 65 requests, resulting in more than 14 thousand copies donated. The number should increase, as the campaign remains open until February 25th and a total of 65 thousand copies were made available for donation. Requests will be received until this date, by completing the donation form available in Annex II of the Notice GR 4/2021. It must be sent to email doacao@editora.unicamp.br. “This campaign aims to disseminate quality intellectual productions, making technical, artistic and scientific works accessible to different audiences. This is an initiative linked to the functions of a university like Unicamp, committed to the dissemination of knowledge of a broad sociocultural spectrum, integrating teaching, research and academic and cultural extension, and encouraging reading and the experience of citizenship”, says the director of Editora da Unicamp, Edwiges Maria Morato.
The rector of Unicamp, professor Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles, confirms the importance of the campaign. “Making our editorial production available, with its vast reach in terms of scientific, technological, cultural and literary knowledge, is our contribution, as a university, to the training of new generations and all those who seek knowledge in the state library system. This is an excellent initiative by Editora to bring us closer to the community in the state of São Paulo, further strengthening our ties with São Paulo society.”
São Paulo libraries increase collection with donation
To date, the donation to the city of São Paulo was the largest made during the campaign. The municipality has the largest Municipal Public Library System in Brazil and the arrival of new titles will enable an increase in the collection, contributing to access and encouraging reading. According to the person responsible for the Supervision of Collection Development and Information Processing of the Coordination of the Municipal Library System, Wanda Moreira Martins Santos, the copies will be destined for neighborhood libraries in the city of São Paulo.
