Sport, transformation and youth: words that describe the partnership between the Adolfo Lutz Academic Athletic Association (AAAAA), Atlética da Medicina Unicamp, and Patrulheiros Campinas, a civil society organization that serves young people in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability. The partnership arises with the aim of promoting sport among Unicamp medical students and guiding youth, especially regarding preventive medicine.
"We highlight the importance of Patrulheiros Campinas in supporting FCM Medicine athletes. With a large and well-structured environment, the institution has provided training spaces for several Athletic teams", said the 2nd year FCM student and president of AAAAL, Pedro Fleury (Filé).
The president of Patrulheiros Campinas, Wesley Pacheco, spoke about the joy of having AAAAL training at the institution's Gym. "This is a space for society and the presence of future doctors serves as a stimulus for our young people to one day also follow, who knows, this path", he stated. With support for teams, Patrulheiros Campinas has enabled athletes to prepare for competitions. Eight teams have used the courts in futsal, basketball, volleyball and handball, men's and women's.
Students Mariana Armani, current director of Extension at AAAAL, and Lucas Figueiredo (Perna), former president of the Association and member of its Council, highlight Atlética's commitment to youth. “As an institution that promotes sport among students, we know the importance of playing a direct role in actions aimed at the community”, they said.
Unicamp academics carry out a series of voluntary activities with teenagers served by the Program, many of them in situations of social vulnerability. This is the case of the Arrebol Project, guided by Andréa Fraga, an emergency physician at the Department of Pediatrics.
Responsible for mediating between Atlética and the Patrolmen, Gustavo Fraga, from the Department of Surgery, spoke about the FCM graduation extension project: “This partnership reinforces the commitment of both institutions to sport, teaching and the preparation of young people for the future, encouraging engagement in noble causes for a more conscious and responsible society”, he highlighted.
