Vacancies for North America and Europe mark the resumption of exchange notices

After a long period without launching international mobility notices due to the pandemic, the Directorate of International Relations (Skin) from Unicamp started 2022 with full steam. With six open notices and many more planned, the focus is on resuming in-person exchanges. “It was a very difficult period for everyone. The Board's activities were very limited due to mobility restrictions. The situation is still uncertain and security measures remain essential. But we believe it is now possible to dream again”, said Osvaldir Taranto, executive director of International Relations at Unicamp. There will be a total of 48 scholarships offered to undergraduate students (together with Banco Santander) in the first half of the year. There will also be notices with vacancies at partner universities, without a scholarship. Among the planned destinations are universities such as Free University of Berlin, Peking University and Purdue University, in the United States

Taranto emphasizes the importance of students preparing in advance for applications. “The notices are open for short periods, around 3 weeks. Therefore, students must get ahead. Proficiency tests, for example, can hardly be carried out in such a short time”, he highlights. Requirements vary depending on the destination university, but proof of English language proficiency appears in most of them. Presentation of the proficiency certificate is mandatory at the time of registration and cannot be submitted later. The type of proof and the level required also vary; TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge are the most widely accepted, and “intermediate” is the minimum level required by Deri. In the case of universities in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula, proficiency in Spanish is often required.

Another frequent requirement in applications is the “study plan”. There, the student must indicate which subjects they intend to study at the destination university. The plan must be signed by the coordinator of your course at Unicamp and subsequently approved by the destination university.

International undergraduate exchanges usually last one academic semester. Students regularly enrolled at Unicamp who meet the prerequisites of each notice can apply.

The opening of notices and the appointment of students covered throughout the year still depend on the global health situation. “At this moment, we cannot guarantee that everything will go as planned”, points out Taranto. Restrictions imposed by the pandemic, such as the closure of borders, the interruption of visa issuance and the suspension of in-person classes may occur again.

They are open until February 14th edicts to universities in Canada, Sweden and Denmark. The vacancies cover all regular courses offered by the destination universities. The exception is the Polytechnique Montreal (edict 03/2022), which has a notice aimed at engineering students and is aimed at the program International Thematic Clusters of Engineering.

Canadians Carleton University (edict 01/2022), located in Ottawa, and McMaster University (edict 02/2022), in Hamilton, offer two spaces each. Both are public universities with programs offered in all areas of knowledge.

Likewise, notices for the Umea University (edict 4/2022) it's at Linnaeus University (edict 5/2022), in Sweden, and for University of Copenhagen (edict 6/2022), in Denmark, offer a wide range of undergraduate courses (taught in English). Four vacancies are open for each of them, the first two with a scholarship and the Danish one without.

Upcoming notices: Asia and Europe

Between February and May, notices are planned for universities in Germany, China, South Korea, France, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

Latin America and Iberian Peninsula

For the second semester, specific notices are planned for the Association of Universities of the Montevideo Group (AUGM), which brings together public universities in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. The notice for the Santander Ibero-American program will also be released, with 20 more places for graduation.
