The Campinas Innovation Ecosystem is among the finalists in the National Innovation Award (PNI). The award is considered the largest in the area and aims to recognize the successful efforts of organizations and Innovation Ecosystems operating in Brazil.

In addition to research, technology and innovation initiatives in the industrial sector and small companies, the 7th edition of the PNI will include, for the first time, Innovation Ecosystems. These are environments composed of different actors (governments, universities and institutions) that articulate, interact and cooperate with each other, stimulating initiatives aimed at social, economic and environmental development based on innovation.

To participate in the award, it was necessary to prove the implementation of actions and initiatives that demonstrate the strengthening of the regional innovation network. The local Ecosystem has the support of public policies to encourage innovation, such as the Campinas Innovation Law, sanctioned in December 2021, and has a history of activities and results recognized by the local, regional, national and even international community.

The Campinas Ecosystem was classified in the subcategory “Innovation Ecosystem in Consolidated Stage”. The other four finalists competing with the Campinas Innovation Ecosystem are the São José dos Campos Technological Park, the Maringá Innovation Ecosystem, the Regional Innovation System of Western Paraná (SRI Iguassu Valley) and the Innovation Ecosystem of Curitiba (Pinhao Valley).

The Inova Unicamp Innovation Agency was highlighted as a Regional Innovation Center in the project submitted by Ecossistema de Campinas. Since its creation in 2003, the Unicamp Innovation Agency has been implementing practices that contribute to the formation of an environment conducive to the development of scientific and technological-based companies, accelerating the transfer of knowledge produced at the university.

Unicamp's Scientific and Technological Park and Technology-Based Business Incubator welcome technology-based companies interested in developing research projects together with the University or boosting business based on training offered by it. Inova also organizes competitions such as the Unicamp Challenge, which attracts those who want to undertake, and programs such as Inova Jovem, which enable the development of entrepreneurial skills since high school.

In partnership with governments, other universities, companies and other institutions, environments like Unicamp's become creative hubs that boost company results and promote social, economic and environmental development for the region.

The National Innovation Award is an initiative of the Business Mobilization for Innovation (MEI), led by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae). The winners of the 2021/2022 Edition will be announced in a ceremony that will take place on March 8, 2022, at 19 pm, broadcast live on the CNI YouTube channel.
