In a meeting with governor Rodrigo Garcia and his secretariat, held this Monday (18) in Campinas within the scope of the “Government in the Area” program, the rector of Unicamp Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles emphasized the need for public investments to develop infrastructure from the International Hub for Sustainable Development (HIDS). Meirelles proposed the structuring of an innovation complex centered on health as a way to boost the project. HIDS is a smart district model to be installed in Campinas. Its planning involves Unicamp, the city hall, the State government and 11 other public and private institutions.
In the dean's opinion, the health issue can make several research, innovation and development agendas in the region compatible. It would allow the articulation of science and technology in assistance, medical equipment, medicines, inputs, logistics and digital technologies, responding, at the same time, to the concern of city halls and the state government in improving assistance services in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (RMC).
Meirelles highlighted the University's intention to recover springs and ecological corridors located in the HIDS area, which totals more than 11 million square meters. The action would mark, from the beginning, the link between innovation and environmental sustainability that characterizes the project.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Dário Saadi and the Secretary of Economic Development of Campinas, Adriana Flosi; the president and vice-president of the RMC Council, mayors Gustavo Reis, from Jaguariúna, and Luiz Dalben, from Sumaré; federal deputies Vanderlei Macris, Carlos Sampaio and Arnaldo Jardim; and state deputies Barros Munhoz, Dirceu Dalben and Rafa Zimbaldi, among other political leaders in the region.
