After a break in 2020 and a virtual edition in 2021, the Unicamp Open Doors (UPA) program returns to its original format, with in-person activities on the Barão Geraldo campus, in Campinas. The 17th edition of the event will be on August 27th, from 8am to 17pm, with free entry. Registration for schools is open and can be done on the UPA website, upa.unicamp.br.
“UPA has the role of welcoming high school and elementary school students into its learning environments. Circulating through the Institutes and Faculties, laboratories, libraries, hospitals and the large tree-lined squares, they discover different teaching and research methods developed in our wide range of courses”, comments Maria Luiza Moretti, general coordinator of the University. “The return to in-person mode will allow for greater interaction with Unicamp professors, students and staff, and, therefore, better clarification of doubts and a clearer perception of the university environment”, she celebrates.
Visitors will be able to participate in guided tours and discover the spaces where university life takes place, as well as talk to professors and students at the University. Throughout the day, colleges and institutes offer lectures, debates, conversation circles and fun activities on topics related to science, technology, education and society. Entrance candidates will also be able to learn about the services offered by Unicamp to students and ask questions about the 2023 Entrance Exam.
This year, the UPA theme will be “Science that Builds”. The University intends to show the importance of scientific research in the development of public policies and decision-making for the community. The theme also reflects the role of science as an instrument to enable a more fair, democratic, diverse and inclusive society.
“The theme strengthens the idea that the construction of knowledge in Universities, through teaching, research and extension, is relevant to society, which has become more evident in combating the Covid-19 pandemic. Unicamp considers that promoting education at all levels should be a permanent agenda. With the UPA, it opens its doors to future science producers”, comments Moretti.
During the UPA organization period, Unicamp's communication channels will provide the schedule and useful information for those who intend to participate in the event. There will also be interviews with University experts on major current topics. The videos can be used by high school teachers for classroom discussion and preparation for the campus visit.
