Students from the Political Education Extension Project (Proeep), linked to the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (IFCH) at Unicamp, created a guide to guide the population about the elections. Created in 2020, the project aims to stimulate political interest and participation, especially among young people. One of the strategies has been to work with the Election Guide in public schools in the region.
At the Hercy Moraes State School, in Campinas, workshops with Proeep have taken place in an elective course called “Politics is discussed”, taught by professor Sydnei Melo Júnior. The proposal is to create a space to discuss the functioning of the Brazilian political system and reinforce the importance of politics in the daily lives of students and in society. “It is scientific knowledge about politics, establishing a very important bridge between school and university, and which makes students feel encouraged and more engaged to understand politics and, if possible, participate in it”, analyzes the professor.
For professor Andréa de Freitas (IFCH), coordinator of the extension project, there is a gap when it comes to addressing politics in traditional educational contexts. “The construction, from the school, of environments where you can create debate changes not only the relationship between the subject and the political universe, but also the relationship between groups of subjects within a room”, she argues.
The guide “Everything they didn’t tell you about your vote” is available for free download on IFCH website.
