This Thursday, July 14th, Campinas' anniversary, the Unicamp Memory Center begins activities leading up to the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the city's founding. The date commemorates the inauguration of the village's first chapel, in 1774, with a mass dedicated to Our Lady of Conception. The Parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição das Campinas do Mato Grosso was then established and the town was founded, linked, at the time, to the town of Jundiaí.
The Unicamp Memory Center is one of the most complete documentation and research centers on Campinas. In the special program that runs until July 2024, a commemorative stamp will be launched and the new portal of Broadcast. There will be two years of activities designed around the history, memory and cultural heritage of Campinas, and based on the CMU's rich collection. On the seal, the work of architect Danilo Rafael Dias, there is a phoenix, a symbol of the city that recovered economically, politically and socially after the epidemic outbreaks that decimated it between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

In addition to the launch of the new website for the collection's Dissemination Service – which will allow access to various content, such as podcasts, teaching texts and pedagogical suggestions, exhibitions, online publications, among others –, weekly posts will be made on the Center's social networks (Facebook and Instagram) about characters and spaces in Campinas, as well as tips and suggestions for those who want to study the history of the city. At the end, an event will take place with the launch of a book, a compendium on the History of Campinas, already in production, and which will feature the participation of 31 specialist authors.
For André Luiz Paulilo, professor at the Faculty of Education at Unicamp and director of the CMU, the activities over the next two years aim to strengthen the University's ties with the Campinas community. “Our mission is to generate and disseminate knowledge around the memory and history of Campinas. We therefore aim to expand our communication channels with the city: we are a center of and for the memory of Campinas”, stated Paulilo.
