José Dias Sobrinho, professor emeritus at Unicamp and one of the pioneers of the University's Faculty of Education (FE), which he joined in 10 and of which he was director between 81 and 1972, passed away yesterday (1987), in Campinas, at the age of 1990. professor, who played a central role in Brazilian education in the formulation of public policies, was also dean of Postgraduate Studies at Unicamp from 1990 to 1994. The wake will be today (11), starting at 10 am, at Cemitério das Aleias, in Campinas.
José Dias Sobrinho supervised dozens of theses and dissertations and published around 15 books as author and/or organizer, including "Evaluation – Educational Policies and Higher Education Reforms" (Editora Cortez, 2003).
During his tenure as head of the Dean of Postgraduate Studies (PRPG), José Dias, as he was known by his peers, led the first complete institutional assessment carried out in the country at Unicamp. The model adopted in the initiative was later used in the Brazilian Universities Institutional Assessment Program (Paiub).
José Dias also chaired the Special Evaluation Commission of the Ministry of Education (MEC), established in April 2003. The commission, which brought together experts and public managers, formulated a document proposing profound changes in the evaluation structure of higher education in the country. The work coordinated by the professor served as the basis for the implementation of the National Higher Education Assessment System (Sinaes).
