Unicamp announces the finalists for the 2022 Entrepreneur Award

The Innovation Agency Inova Unicamp and the group of entrepreneurs Unicamp Ventures released the list of entrepreneurs who stood out in four categories of the Unicamp Entrepreneur Award and continue to compete for the title of Entrepreneur of the Year 2022. The result will be announced on the 17th Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting, which will take place on October 20th, at 16 pm, at IC3-3 Unicamp Auditorium).

The winners of the Social Impact, Innovation, Female Leadership and Greater Growth (Scale-up) categories will hold, during the main connection event between daughter companies, their pitches, brief presentations on the cases submitted by the company, and will receive trophies for their categories. Among the finalists of the sixth edition of the competition, which honors good initiatives and honors the talent of University graduates, are leaders of Unicamp's daughter companies that operate in the education, tax, health and biological analysis sectors.

In addition to the projection in the University's entrepreneurial ecosystem as a reference in their area of ​​activity, the person who wins Entrepreneur of the Year will receive legal consultancy for their company (30 hours), which can be chosen in the areas: Corporate, Tax, Contracts and Negotiations, offered by the sponsor Reach Innovation Consulting. The winner will also be invited to participate in the Unicamp Ventures Podcast, to talk about their entrepreneurial journey in a 30-minute program dedicated to the topic, and will take home a second trophy.

Meet the finalists for Unicamp Entrepreneur of the Year 2022:

Socio-environmental impact: IncentivMe

Thais Lopes Nicolau is the winner in the Social Impact category. The founding partner of IncentivMe directly participated in the implementation of the tax innovation startup's pioneering strategy and methodology. Unicamp's daughter company led the selection process and curated more than 400 social investment projects, providing 175 million reais in the areas of culture, education, sport, health and environment. The projects impacted more than 1 million lives, seeking to solve collective problems through smart taxation, based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 

Innovation: Lenscope

In the Innovation category, Makoto Ikegame was the winner. He heads Unicamp's daughter company Lenscope. A healthtech developed the technology that makes it possible to take measurements to assemble glasses lenses from any mobile device (cell phones and tablets), remotely and without the need for human intervention or validation. The system allows us to offer products up to 70% cheaper than traditional alternatives, democratizing access to corrective lenses. The company also shares information for eye health, being recognized for the quality of its content.

female leadership: Brazilian Beer Institute

In the Female Leadership category, Kathia Zanatta took the trophy. The master brewer and beer sommelière is the co-founder of the Instituto da Cerveja do Brasil (ICB), the first and largest training school for beer sommeliers in the country and one of the three largest in the world in terms of number of students. Started in 2010, when the craft beer market in Brazil was very small, with around 100 breweries, this daughter company of Unicamp, led by Kathia, inspired many women to enter the beer business. In total, 15 thousand students were trained throughout Brazil and participate in the growth of the sector. 

Greater growth: FoxES

Guilherme Borelli was the winner in the Largest Growth (Scale-up) category. He is a founding partner of FoxES, a startup from the Gene Solux group, both daughter companies of Unicamp. The startup works with clinical analyzes based on Molecular Biology techniques and began working serving the ethanol plant sector, having expanded its portfolio since 2018, the year it was founded. The company saw its revenue jump during the pandemic, when it entered the human clinical analysis sector. Under Guilherme's leadership and with more than 300 thousand exams carried out, FoxES records an accumulated growth of 257 times in the last four years.

About the 17th Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting

The Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting is an important event connecting entrepreneurs from the Unicamp ecosystem with students and researchers who want to learn about the world of entrepreneurship. In 2017, the Unicamp Entrepreneur Award was launched and has been incorporated into the event since then. Last year, the competition gained a new category to recognize and encourage the work of Female Leaders in Unicamp's daughter companies.

The 17th edition of the Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting will take place on October 20th (Thursday), starting at 16pm, in the IC3-3 Unicamp Auditorium. At the event, the new numbers of Unicamp's daughter companies, collected and analyzed by the Inova Unicamp Innovation Agency, will also be released.
