Rose Ramos was elected by the advisors of Unicamp Ventures (UV), a group of entrepreneurs linked to Unicamp, as the new executive president for the 2022-2024 term.
Rose is the eighth entrepreneur and the second woman to occupy the executive management position at Unicamp Ventures, alongside names such as César Gon, CEO of CI&T, and Fabrício Bloisi, founder of the Movile Group and CEO of iFood – the first presidents and founders of the group connecting entrepreneurs trained at Unicamp – as well as Rosana Jamal, founder of Baita Aceleradora.
The announcement took place during the 17th Unicamp Ventures Annual Meeting, held on October 20th by Inova Unicamp Innovation Agency in partnership with the group, and was made by David Figueira, who hands over the position, but continues as advisor to Unicamp Ventures for the next two years, as provided for in the regulations.
Both Rose's professional profile and experiences and her contributions to Unicamp's entrepreneurial ecosystem were highlighted by David during the announcement. “For us, it is an honor to have Rose as the new president of UV. In addition to all the experience in the entrepreneurial and investment world that she carries, Rose brought to the Unicamp Ventures group a management and partner prospecting methodology, together with Inova Unicamp, so that we can hold the events and have the results of connection between the daughter companies that we achieved today”, celebrated David.
As a relationship and collaboration group between entrepreneurs from the University, UV maintains several active actions so that daughter companies get to know each other and can interact. Among these actions, we highlight the production of content, the organization of the Unicamp Entrepreneur Award, in addition to the organization of events such as meetups, webinars and Annual Meetings on various topics involving entrepreneurship, all held in partnership with Inova Unicamp.
Diversity and connection are the focus of the new management
One of the changes that occurred in the group since Rose joined as a counselor was the defense of inclusion and diversity, within the group and in its initiatives. She led, for example, the inclusion of new evaluation criteria in all categories of the Unicamp Entrepreneur Award (Socio-environmental Impact, Innovation, Female Leadership and Scale-up) to collaborate in the selection of companies that are also engaged in these issues within their teams.
“When we say that diversity is among the values of the Unicamp Ventures group, we are committed to making this tangible in practice. We want to go beyond involving different types and sizes of daughter companies in our activities. We want to increase awareness and celebrate good practices for including diversity in companies’ human profiles. We actively position ourselves in favor of businesses with racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical, religious and opinion diversity. We position ourselves in favor of businesses that represent our society and respect human rights”, explained Rose Ramos, at the time of inclusion of the new criteria.
For her new term, now as executive president of the group – Rose was a UV advisor for four years –, she intends to continue with the changes proposed and absorbed in the management led by David so that they become perennial, such as taking into account the profile of speakers at events so that there is more balance between guests and so that this encourages and inspires more people:
“We have already had UV events with only men, with 21,6% of Unicamp's entrepreneurial partners being women, for example. We have the responsibility to pay special attention to the diversity of people in the composition of the UV board and also among the speakers invited to our events, actions that we initiated during the previous administration”, comments the president.
When it comes to expanding connections, Rose highlights opportunities to strengthen actions that integrate entrepreneurs from the Unicamp ecosystem with the various hubs that relate to the topic. “I see it as a great opportunity to contribute to strengthening the connection between entrepreneurship and research. Innovation applied to the market and in partnership with academia can generate increasingly more value to society, expanding the competitive advantage of Brazilian companies and generating jobs. Furthermore, it is very positive that we can facilitate the integration of entrepreneurs with the different relationship groups in the ecosystem, collaborating with actors such as the UniAngels network, the Entrepreneurial League and many others with whom we can strengthen ourselves together”, comments the new president.
In addition to her collaboration at Unicamp Ventures, Rose Ramos is a founding partner and CEO of matchIT, startup hosted at Unicamp Scientific and Technological Park which provides an intelligent platform to connect teams specialized in information technology (IT) services with companies' challenges, quickly responding to the needs of those who hire, putting them in contact with those who offer solutions. She is also a partner and member of the board of Sabiá Agency, which works with advertising for IT companies.
Rose is still active in several entrepreneurial ecosystems. She helped structure the angel fund, iAngels Brasil, maintains links with IESE Business School alumni, is a member of Latitud, which brings together technology companies in Latin America, and is an advisor to the Unicamp angel fund (UniAngels).
