Unicamp is among the most internationally prestigious universities in the world, according to the ranking prepared by the British consultancy Times Higher Education (THE) released this Wednesday (16). The university is ranked between positions 151-175 in the survey that includes 211 institutions from around the world. In addition to Unicamp, the University of São Paulo also appears on the list, between positions 81-90. The two are the only Brazilian institutions included in the ranking. Among Latin American universities, the National Autonomous University of Mexico is ranked 176-200.
This is the third time that Unicamp has been classified by the academic impact ranking. The first time, in 2020, the university ranked between positions 176-200. This year's position, between 151-175, repeats the performance recorded by the institution in 2021.
The ranking is prepared based on questionnaires applied to researchers from different countries, in which they must point out institutions that are references in their respective areas. The placement of universities in the survey corresponds to how much they are mentioned in academics' responses. In the 2022 edition, the survey was applied to 29.606 researchers from 159 countries.
The most reputable institution is Harvard University, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford University, all in the United States, the country with the largest number of universities in the ranking, a total of 56. According to Times Higher Education, The increase in Asian universities in this year's survey is indicative of the growth of countries like China, with 17 institutions represented, on the global academic research scene.
The results were also used to prepare the THE world ranking, released in October, in which Unicamp appears among the 401-500 best universities in the world.
