A team made up of a professor and three postgraduate students from the Center for Petroleum Studies (CEPETRO) and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FEM) at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) was honored at the Petrobras 2022 Inventor Award. The event took place this Wednesday (16), at Petrobras Research Center (CENPES), in Rio de Janeiro. Among the winners is Marcelo Souza de Castro, professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FEM-Unicamp), who had already received the trophy in 2020.

The Unicamp group developed an innovative system to quantify multiphase flows (liquid and gaseous) indirectly that can assist in the measurement of deep oil wells. The technology is the result of a technological cooperation project developed with Petrobras and had a patent filed, in 2021, at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), with support from the Inova Unicamp Innovation Agency.

The Petrobras annual award is in its 22nd edition and recognizes the technical expertise, competence and collaborative spirit of inventors, who developed solutions and projects resulting in protection requests, contributing to innovation in the Brazilian company's oil and gas sector. This year, 119 patent applications and 536 researchers were granted.

Previous editions

Unicamp was also present in the last two editions of the Petrobras Inventor Award – which took place in a reduced format in 2020 and 2021, due to the covid-19 pandemic –, with three other technologies protected with a strategy from the Innovation Agency Inova Unicamp . The trophies and certificates for these editions were delivered by mail to the winners between August and October this year.

In total, six professors, ten undergraduate and postgraduate students and three researchers linked to Unicamp were awarded in the last 3 years, in addition to partner researchers. Among the winners is Ana Frattini, professor at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, current executive director of Inova Unicamp. “It is a joy to have Unicamp among the winners in another year of the Petrobras Inventor Award, this recognition crowns the intense work of everyone involved”, she said.

2022: Method and system for measuring characteristics of a Multiphase flow

The present invention relates to a method and system for measuring characteristics of a multiphase flow from structural vibration signals. The technological area of application is the mechanical area, more precisely the areas of fluid mechanics and vibrations, aimed at obtaining characteristics of a multiphase flow, such as flow pattern, phase fractions, speeds, etc., indirectly, the from non-invasive sensors.

Inventors: Marcelo Souza de Castro (FEM-Unicamp), Juliana Rangel Cenzi, Charlie Van Der Geest, Daiane Mieko Iceri, Bernardo Pereira Foresti (Petrobras), Adriano Todorovic Fabro (UnB), Marcos Pellegrini Ribeiro (Petrobras), Daniely Amorim Das Neves (UnB), Pedro Henrique De Melo Casado Matos (UnB) and Saon Crispim Vieira (Petrobras).

2021: Composition of divergent acidic fluid for reservoir stimulation by matrix acidification

The invention is a divergent acidic fluid composition for use in stimulating oil wells during exploration, called Quovadis. The invention is used during matrix acidification, with the function of improving the performance of well stimulation processes in difficult-to-access regions, in addition to removing permanent damage to the formation around the well, enabling greater scope of treatment and consequently greater use. of the treatment.

Inventors: Edvaldo Sabadini (IQ-Unicamp), Renato Nunes De Souza, Manazael Zuliani Jora, Matheus Da Silva Barbosa and Carlos Speglich (Petrobras)

2020: Non-intrusive ultrasonic system for measuring and characterizing two-phase flows

The technology presents a system for measuring and characterizing two-phase flows using an ultrasonic technique, aimed mainly at flow monitoring applications (liquid and gas) common in the production and transport of hydrocarbons in the oil and gas industries. The method allows identifying and characterizing plugged flow patterns and dispersed bubbles in a non-intrusive way, with low installation and operation restrictions.

Inventors: Ana Maria Frattini Fileti (FEQ-Unicamp), Valdir Estevam (FEM-Unicamp), Alberto Luiz Serpa (FEM-Unicamp), Maurício De Melo Freire Figueiredo, Felipe De Castro Teixeira Carvalho.

2020: Petroleum foam generating device

It is foam generating equipment using a pressurized oil decompression process containing some type of gas dissolved in the liquid matrix. The invention can be applied to assist control in the area of chemical and petrochemical processes, more specifically in oil production, by simulating foaming conditions in adverse conditions and enabling the development of more efficient methodologies in oil production.

Inventors: Marcelo Souza de Castro (CEPETRO-Unicamp), Cesar Costapinto Santana (FEQ-Unicamp), Vanessa Cristina Bizotto Guersoni, Carlos Eduardo Perles, André Blumer Sanchez, Natache Do Socorro Dias Arrifano Sassim, Elói Monteiro Dos Santos, João Batista Vianey Da Silva Ramalho (Petrobras), Osvaldo Karnitz Junior (Petrobras).
