The photographic exhibition “The cultural diversity of indigenous students at the Institute of Geosciences (IG) – Unicamp” features 26 photos that portray the communities from which indigenous students now present at the unit came. The objective of the exhibition is to present the different realities of the communities of these students from different dimensions, from natural aspects to the daily life within them.
The selected photos were taken by four students from communities located in the State of Amazonas and in the Xingu Indigenous Park (Mato Grosso). There is also a photograph of a non-indigenous student from the Geography course who visited in 2019, at the invitation of an IG colleague, the village of the Waura people, in the Xingu Indigenous Park. Two photos of an indigenous person who is from the same community as an IG student were also selected.

The record of childhood is one of the themes covered in some photographs, such as the child playing with a ball in the Pyiulaga community, inhabited by the Waura ethnic group; the child swimming in the Kuluene River, in the Kalapapo community – both in the Xingu indigenous territory; and the child of the Wanano ethnic group in the Igarapé of the Parque das Tribos Community, in Manaus. The role of women in the communities is also highlighted in the exhibition: there are women from the Pyiulaga community carrying basins on their heads; and participating in the festival of the Marubo people.
The exhibition is part of a project in progress that will aim to hold exhibitions in the IG lobby every two or three months on topics that involve different perspectives from the Institute's undergraduate students. The idea is that the photos are produced by the students themselves, under the coordination of the Undergraduate Committee.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until the beginning of May.
