The evaluation committee was made up of 43 members from educational institutions from all regions of the country. The five areas covered by the award are: exact sciences, engineering and technology; biological and health sciences; human, social and economic sciences; arts, communication and language and education. The awards ceremony takes place on May 22nd.
“Compared to last year, we had an increase in the number of exact and technological research, which shows that the award is expanding. Furthermore, we incorporated research institutes and centers, which brought greater diversity”, assesses the coordinator of the Evaluation Committee and advisor to the Dean of Research at Unicamp, Angela Cristina Lucas.
Only works published throughout 2022 were analyzed. The themes covered are connected to current issues, such as poverty, gender and racial inequalities, accessibility, migration, violence and sustainability.
For Angela Lucas, the award fulfills the role of encouraging the production of research that is committed to human dignity and other forms of life. “Awarding research on human rights is a way of encouraging work in the area and at the same time demystifying the fact that it would only be a social science topic. There is research that contributes to human rights in all areas.”
The honorary awards, which honor prominent names in the promotion of human rights, were granted to personalities involved in combating racism, defending indigenous peoples and the environment and investigating neo-Nazi groups.
