Unicamp's Toxicological Information and Assistance Center (CIATox) presented this Thursday (17), data demonstrating a significant increase in cases of serious poisoning by methanol, associated with the consumption of alcohol obtained from fuel station pumps, the majority with fatal outcome.

The study concentrated data from the RMC and the regions of Piracicaba and São João da Boa Vista. CIATox-Unicamp researchers warn that the situation requires a set of urgent measures from several institutions, such as Epidemiological and Health Surveillance, Urgency and Emergency Services, Forensic Medicine Services, the Civil Police, the National Petroleum Agency ( ANP), among others.
