For the 16th year, the Inova Unicamp Innovation Agency held the Inventors Award, an annual event dedicated to the celebration and recognition of professors, researchers and students from the University, together with inventors from partner companies and institutions involved with intellectual property and technology transfer linked to Unicamp. This year, 82 people were awarded in the Licensed Intellectual Property and Technology Absorbed in the Market categories, and one company was awarded in the Academic Spin-off Creation category.
The event took place on Thursday (14), at Inova's headquarters, located on the Campinas campus. It was an occasion marked by a festive atmosphere due to the results achieved in 2022.
Professor Ana Frattini, executive director of Inova, started the ceremony, celebrating another year of effort and dedication in the search for results. “It is a joy to recognize and celebrate these achievements aimed at the culture of intellectual property protection, technology transfer, innovation and entrepreneurship at Unicamp”, said Frattini.
Several authorities were present at the event, such as the rector of Unicamp, Antonio José de Almeida José de Almeida Meirelles; the innovation manager at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (PUC-Campinas), Diane Teo, who represented the rector of PUC-Campinas, professor Germano Rigacci Júnior; the dean of Undergraduate Studies at Unicamp, Ivan Toro; the deputy coordinator focusing on Innovation at the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (Fapesp), Rodolfo Azevedo; the Unicamp attorney, Veridiana Porto; the administrative coordinator of Funcamp, Giovana Emiliano, among others.
The event began with a ceremony to present plaques in honor of the award-winning inventors who were present. Then, the guests were taken to the external space of the Inova Unicamp headquarters, where the cocktail and ceremony took place. During the ceremony, trophies were also handed out to the units awarded for their achievements in the area of Intellectual Property Protection and Technology Transfer.
“The Institute of Chemistry (IQ) as a whole is being represented today by this trophy. I want to thank Inova Unicamp for making the lives of these researchers easier and helping, as far as possible, to protect intellectual property. This is very important for the Institute and for Unicamp”, said professor Claudio Francisco Tormena, director of IQ, celebrating the unit's achievement for the 6th time as a highlight in the patent filing. “Technology transfer and the relationship with industry is difficult anywhere on the planet. There's that myth that some places are easier for some reason, but that's not true. It is a construction process, and, at FEEC, we have been cultivating this tradition for two years now”, explains Figueroa.
The speeches at the ceremony were closed by the rector of Unicamp, Antonio Meireles, who, this year, was also awarded a technology licensed by the company Newpro Engenharia.

Tom Zé, as the rector is known, amidst the thanks, praised the results and celebrated the penetration of innovation and knowledge throughout all Unicamp units.
“We want what we produce in Science and Technology and in knowledge in general to have an increasingly greater impact. We want you to generate products, for these products to be licensed, and that is what we are celebrating at this event”, stated the dean of Unicamp.
At the end of the ceremony, two surprise tributes moved the Inova Unicamp internal team. Professor Ana Frattini, executive director of Inova Unicamp, and professor Renato Lopes, associate director, handed out roses in honor of two Inova Unicamp leaders for their effort and performance in the results obtained in the Inventores Award and in the celebration event. Iara Ferreira, Business and Innovation Coordinator, and Kátia Kishi, Communication Supervisor, were honored.
