Unicamp is among the 351-400 best universities in the world according to the 2024 ranking of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, published this Wednesday (27/09). The University returns to the ranking it achieved in 2016. According to the new ranking, Unicamp has the second best position among the best in Brazil and Latin America, ahead of the University of São Paulo (USP).
"Unicamp's return to a better position in the Times Higher Education world ranking, the one it occupied in 2016, confirms the importance of this management's efforts to strengthen the University's internationalization policies, which had already been demonstrated, two weeks ago, with the rise from fifth to third place in the list of the best institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean prepared by the QS consultancy”, states the rector of Unicamp, Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles.
Between 2017 and 2023, Unicamp had remained in the 401-500 range of the world rankings. "These results are a source of pride for our academic community and attest to the quality of the teaching, research and extension activities developed at Unicamp”, celebrates the rector.
Best indicators
Unicamp increased its score compared to 2023 in three of the five areas of quality indicators: teaching (from 47,9 to 50), international perspective (from 34,1 to 40,4) and industry income (from 44,4 to 65,5). Using the British consultancy methodology, universities are evaluated on 13 quality indicators, divided into five categories: teaching (30%), research (30%), citations (30%), international perspective (7,5%), and industry income (2,5%).
Unicamp's indicators, in relation to other universities, place the University above the "median" line and the "third quartile" in the areas of teaching and research environment, according to the reading of Rosângela Maria Correia Leves, from the technical team of the Dean of University Development (PRDU). Teaching was the University's best-rated indicator, ranked 133rd in this category. In the overall score, Unicamp has 50 points, within the range 49,1-51,0.
