On the first day of tests of the second phase of the Unicamp 2024 Vestibular, which began to be applied this Sunday (3/12), the Permanent Commission for Unicamp Entrance Exams (Comvest) registered 7,8% abstention, practically the same rate as the previous year (7,6%) and one of the lowest ever recorded in the second stage, as shown in the data in the table below. Of the 13.447 candidates approved to take the second stage, there were 12.404 students present and 1.043 absent. This year's abstention rate is below the average of the last 10 years, which is around 11%. Writing tests were appliedo, Portuguese Language and Literatures and interdisciplinary issues of English and Natural Sciences.
Na writing test, candidates were able to choose between two proposals. The first asked that write a letter reporting domestic work analogous to slavery. The second proposal proposed the elaboration of the text of a speech about refugees and political asylum, as a UN delegate, in a high school simulation.
The lowest abstention on this first day of the second phase was recorded in Piracicaba with just 3,6%. In São Paulo, abstention was 6,6% and in Campinas 7,4%. The second phase of the Unicamp 2024 Entrance Exam continues to be applied this Monday (4/12), in 22 cities in the country, the capitals being Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Salvador and São Paulo, and 16 other cities in São Paulo: Bauru, Campinas, Guarulhos, Jundiaí , Limeira, Mogi Guaçu, Osasco, Piracicaba, Presidente Prudente, Ribeirão Preto, Santo André, Santos, São Carlos, São José do Rio Preto, São José dos Campos and Sorocaba. Candidates are advised to arrive at the test location at 12 noon (Brasília time), as access to the test locations will be permitted until 13 p.m. (Brasília time). The duration of the application is five hours each day of proof. The minimum time spent in the room is two hours.
The director of Comvest, José Alves de Freitas Neto, attributed the low rate of absentees to the date of the second phase of the entrance exam, still in December, as implemented for the first time last year. “It is important to highlight that in the previous year we had 11.739 people taking the test on the first day of the second phase and, this Sunday, we had 12.404 present. This demonstrates engagement, commitment and, of course, we expect to have good results in the selection”, said José Alves.

For José Alves: “The two proposals for the Writing test have something in common, as they propose an ethical reflection and a person's commitment to issues that permeate today's world”, stated José Alves. The director of Comvest also highlighted that the questions on the first day of the test brought up current themes and required mandatory reading works. “It was a very contextualized test, with topics close to the students and which give the face of the Unicamp Entrance Exam”, he said.
Test materials
The candidates They must bring the original of the identity document indicated in the registration, black pen (in transparent material), black pencil, eraser, and their own bottle of water. The use of a transparent ruler and compass will be permitted. The use of cell phones, watches of any type, any other electronic equipment, liquid correction fluid, mechanical pencil, highlighter pen, bandana/scarf, cap, hat and other foreign proof materials is prohibited. Allowed: water, juices, chocolates and light foods.

The second phase consists of tests with essay questions. The tests have a common part for all candidates and a diverse part, according to the area of knowledge of the course chosen in the 1st option (Biological Sciences/Health; Exact/Technological Sciences, Human Sciences/Arts). Each essay question is worth four points, each withThere are two items worth two points each. The tests follow the following distribution:
First day - tests common to all candidates:
Writing Test (consisting of two text proposals for the candidate to choose and execute only one proposal);
Portuguese Language and Portuguese Language Literature Test, with six questions;
Interdisciplinary test with two English questions and two interdisciplinary Natural Sciences questions.
Second day - tests common to all candidates:
Mathematics Test: with six questions for courses in the Exact Sciences/Technology areas; four questions for courses in the areas of Biological Sciences/Health and four questions for courses in the areas of Human Sciences/Arts.
Interdisciplinary Test: with two interdisciplinary questions from Human Sciences.
Second day - tests of specific knowledge, depending on the course option:
a) Candidates in the area of Biological Sciences/Health: Biology test with eight questions; Chemistry test, with six questions.
b) Candidates in the Exact/Technological Sciences area: Physics test, with six questions; Chemistry test, with six questions.
c) Candidates in the Human Sciences/Arts area: Geography test, with six questions; History test, with six questions; Philosophy test, with one question; Sociology test, with one question.
