“I have no doubt that this model is the future of the University in terms of providing ICT [information and communication technology] services to its various bodies”, said the director of the Executive Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (Detic) from Unicamp, Ricardo Dahab, at the official launch of the Hub TIC Cocen (Coordination of Interdisciplinary Research Centers and Nuclei), held on November 29th in the auditorium of the University's School of Corporate Education (Educorp). “I thank Cocen for its pioneering spirit and for buying into the idea very quickly. We managed to give birth to the first hub of ICT at the University.”
The Cocen TIC Hub project began to take shape in February this year. Since then, there have been months of joint work between Detic and the Cocen system – which includes 21 research centers and nuclei. Now, the idea is that the hub serve as a model for the implementation of similar structures in other bodies of the University.
“We have the mission, given by the rectory, to think of a new way of providing ICT services. And there is nothing better than now having an initiative already implemented”, said Dahab. O hub It is characterized by being a point of convergence between different sectors and professionals connected in a network, promoting more intelligent, collaborative and systemic solutions. “This model is recommended in all the literature regarding ICT”, added the director of Detic.
At Cocen, the hubs have already become a hallmark of the current management. The model is also being implemented in the area of Human Resources (HR) and other cases are in the preliminary study phase. Cocen coordinator, Ana Carolina de Moura Delfim Maciel, highlights that the hubs represent an innovative difference and are part of the broader objective of promoting scientific and organizational convergence between research centers and nuclei, in a manner consistent with the interdisciplinarity premises that guide the system.
“The launch of the Cocen TIC Hub is the result of an extremely significant collective construction. This is a project based on several meetings to exchange and share experiences, knowledge and perspectives that mobilized the ICT sectors throughout our system. When we carry out initiatives like this, we overcome integration difficulties, stimulate efficiency and encourage the effective development of our potential, both as professionals and as an institution”, declared Maciel.
The TIC Cocen Hub will not physically move professionals to a specific area. The idea is to provide a virtual axis of support and integration between the different sectors, made possible by prior work mapping and diagnosing the main demands and characteristics of the system.
During the months of the project's gestation, a working group led by the network administrator and representative of Detic, Sidney Pio de Campos, visited all the Centers and Nuclei of the COCEN System to talk to professionals and ICT sectors in each research unit . "We were very well received during the visits. At first, there were doubts, but our attitude has always been to listen to everyone, understand everyday problems, never to impose centralization of decisions or anything forced", reported Sidney.
