The presentation of the Unicamp 2023 Highlight Alumni Award, in its first edition, took place on the afternoon of this Monday (18), at the Convention Center, with the presence of friends and family of the 30 winners, as well as some representatives of the recipients who were unable to participate in person. Rector Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles and Cristiano Torezzan, professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FCA), responsible for creating the award and implementing a new policy for the University's relationship with its alumni, handed over the certificates.

In recent months, each institute and faculty at Unicamp and its two technical colleges have nominated graduating students who are outstanding in their professional performance. According to Torezzan, next year the possibility of expanding the award to one graduating student per course and not just per unit is already being studied.

“By honoring alumni, we recognize one of the main assets that the University produces for society,” said Torezzan. According to him, Unicamp has more than 150 thousand graduating students. With the announcement of the award, there was a 35% increase in the number of subscribers on the Alumini platform. Advantages were created by the University for those registered on the platform, including a permanent email like @alumini.unicamp, access to the Eduroam wireless network (education roaming) and the possibility of using part of the Unicamp library system collection.

For the rector, the award represents an institutional advance. During the ceremony, he outlined a brief history of Unicamp and mentioned other awards that already exist, such as the Zeferino Vaz Award for outstanding research, as well as awards for graduation, extension and technical courses.

Recognition

“With the Unicamp Highlight Alumni Award we want, first, to recognize the success of the person whose history was marked by Unicamp. And, second, that the award motivates you to be a spokesperson for the University. I hope this moment marks this lasting relationship”, said Meirelles. “Presenting this award is part of the pride I feel as rector of Unicamp.”

The rector also highlighted the importance of the endowment fund that exists as a result of donations made by former students and which enables, for example, a scholarship program from which 27 women in the areas of engineering, science and mathematics in situations of economic vulnerability benefit. . According to Meirelles, another example of the importance of Unicamp's relationship with its graduates is the work of its daughter companies, incubated at the University. “There are around 1.300 daughter companies, which generate 47 thousand jobs and earn R$26 billion a year, of which at least R$5 billion stays in the State of São Paulo, a value greater than the transfer of funds from the State to Unicamp. ”

The director of the Institute of Philosophy and Science also participated in person at the ceremony. Humanities (IFCH), Andréia Galvão, the director of the Institute of Arts (IA), Fernando Augusto de Almeida Hashimoto, the director from the Institute of Geosciences, Márcio Antônio Cataia, the director of the Technical College of Limeira (Cotil), Augusto César da Silveira, and the director of the Technical College of Unicamp (Cotuca), Luiz Seabra Junior . technical assistant Camila Medeiros Aguilar led the event's ceremonial, with the support of Simone Turati.
