The State University of Campinas (Unicamp) is the third Brazilian university with the highest number of patent application filings in the country carried out in 2023, according to the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). The rankings of the 50 largest applicants for industrial property rights residing in Brazil, in the years 2023 and 2022, were released this Monday (29) in the INPI website.
Unicamp, through its Inova Unicamp Innovation Agency, registered 40 deposits of the 1.368 patent applications in the INPI Top 50, referring to last year, doubling its participation when compared to 2022. At the top of the ranking appears the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), followed by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
The associate executive director of Inova Unicamp, professor Renato Lopes, highlights that the good performance in the ranking demonstrates the ability of the University's teachers, students and researchers to transform research results into inventions that can benefit society, with technological, social, and social development. economic and environmental.

According to INPI, Unicamp also ranks among the 15 universities that register the most Computer Programs in the country. Inova Unicamp has promoted the protection of intellectual property at Unicamp through specialized training and guidance.
