Rectors of the Southern Cone
seek common policy
Participants in the 35th Meeting of the AUGM Council of Rectors, promoted by Unicamp between April 9 and 11, presented proposals at a regional level for the production of knowledge in Mercosur countries. Topics such as consolidation of research in science and technology, innovation processes and the resumption of the university's role as a protagonist in history were debated by rectors and speakers. The executive secretary of AUGM, Uruguayan Jorge Brovetto, proposed that public universities in South America come together to create a regional forum that will deepen discussions on S&T and higher education policies. The pollution
that comes from the sky
Research carried out at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Unicamp (FEC) identified metals potentially harmful to health among the elements found in suspended particulate matter and in rainwater in Campinas. In the survey, whose research instruments used advanced analysis techniques, significant levels of zinc, nickel and chromium were found, components of industrial origin that invariably have a cumulative effect on the body after being inhaled and absorbed. page 3
