Folha de S. Paul

August 17 - With a new expansion in the employment level in July, Fiesp (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo) revised its projection for the growth in the number of vacancies generated in the manufacturing industry from 3,5% to 4% São Paulo in 2004. Although the consensus is that the economic recovery is continuing until now, analysts say that caution is needed. “There is no doubt that industrial employment will recover. But the signs show that there is still dependence on the external market”, says Claudio Dedecca, professor at Unicamp.

August 16 - The bride is so nervous that, upon arriving at Nossa Senhora do Carmo church, in Bela Vista, she realizes that she forgot the bouquet. She calls her fiancé's cell phone, who runs to get him. But he doesn't deliver the flowers directly to the bride, after all, according to tradition, he can only see her on the way to the altar. Problem solved: it's 18:15 pm and the bride enters the church, to the sound of the wedding march. On the one hand, we have a group that thinks a lot about getting married and, on the other, certain young people who get married early precisely for that reason, as if marriage gave meaning to life. Basically, the motivation of both groups is the same”, says sociologist Elisabete Dória Bilac, researcher at Nepo (Population Studies Center) at Unicamp, who works on the topic of family.

Diary of São Paulo

August 17 - Research carried out at Unicamp shows that surgery is still surrounded by myths and causes anxiety. Despite being an old method and widely used in Brazil, hysterectomy (surgery to remove the uterus) is still surrounded by many myths. The idea of becoming frigid, gaining weight and even losing femininity are still some of the thoughts of women about to undergo the procedure. This was revealed by research carried out at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) by psychologist Adriana Magrin Rivera Sbroggio.
