July 10 - Tubal ligation and vasectomy surgeries are overcoming cultural resistance - even among doctors - and are no longer just electoral bargaining chips in Brazil. In the network linked to the Unified Health System (SUS) alone, the number of surgeries has increased 20 times in the last four years, according to data from the Ministry of Health. The criteria, however, face resistance from doctors, who consider the 25 year old young woman for surgery. Research by demographer Elza Berquó, from Unicamp and the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (Cebrap), carried out in 2000, showed that only 50% of candidates received assistance.

The article “Study shows cell phone interference in ICU equipment”, published in the last edition of Jornal da Unicamp, was incorrect. The research was developed by health technologist Suzy Cristina Cabral, based on a concern expressed by nurses at the pediatric ICU at HC at Unicamp. The work, recently published in a prestigious biomedical engineering journal, was presented to a group from a university in Spain, who were interested in reproducing the experience.
