Project takes classical music
and popular with the population

Starting this August 1st, at the Community Center (Carlos Gomes room), Cambuí, Unicamp offers the population a series of musical performances with groups made up of teachers and students from the Music Department of the Institute of Arts. The project is part of the University's 40th year celebrations. Until December 5th, on the first and third Tuesday of each month, always at 3 pm, classical music and popular music shows will alternate, with free entry.

Shows take place on two Tuesdays of the month, at Convivência

The project is coordinated by professor Esdras Rodrigues, who had the help of professor Helena Janke to prepare the program. According to Cida Godoy, coordinator of the IA Production Center, the Carlos Gomes room has undergone renovation and the small size (for 100 seats) makes it ideal for the styles of music that are intended to be presented. “The idea is to show the city the work of the students, although teachers may also occasionally participate in the programming,” she explains.

After the opening ceremony, this Tuesday, the series will inaugurate with the presentation of Jazz 4 Sale, composed of students and alumni of the popular music course: Luís Alberto (electric and acoustic violin), Fred Jason (keyboards ), Gustavo Mazon (electric and acoustic bass) and Luiz André, o Gigante (drums). The group (read Jazz for Sale) was formed at the end of 2004, with the idea of studying the language of Jazz and MPB, understanding and fusing the ideas and musical fields of these styles. In 2005, the band was diluted so that each member performed works with different trends, such as Rock, MPB, Jazz, Electronic Music, Acid Jazz, Blues, Fusion and Pop. Now the group returns exposing these influences with new arrangements on themes already worked on.
