This August 3rd, at 15 pm, in the auditorium of the Institute of Arts, the academic community will have the opportunity to learn about the work of Portuguese-Brazilian director José Caldas, with the show O Medo Azul, conceived based on the short story Barba Azul, by Charles Perrault, with intertexts from the Brothers Grimm and Barbe Rouge, a Breton folktale. The event is part of the set of activities celebrating Unicamp's 40th anniversary and will be dedicated to children in the community, aged 4 and over. Children from Prodecad – an educational program aimed at the children of University employees – were especially invited, along with elementary school teachers.
Highlight in Europe, director José Caldas comes to debate
Then, director and professor José Caldas will coordinate a reflection group on the show made up of art teachers, pedagogues, performing arts students, who will have the chance to debate theater for children and youth from the point of view of what is considered one of the most creative directors today in Europe. José Caldas was born in Brazil and spent his professional life in Portugal, where he lived thirty years ago. He has directed shows in Italy, France and Spain, all of which have won awards.
Responsible for introducing Brazilian literature for children to European stages, Caldas staged The Woman Who Killed the Fish and The Intimate Life of Laura, by Clarice Lispector, A Bolsinha Amarela, by Ligia Bojunga, In the Country of Tatipirum, by Graciliano Ramos, and Andorinha Sinhá, by Jorge Amado, among others. This trip to Brazil celebrates the director's 30-year career, with shows scheduled for Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and São Luiz do Maranhão. O Medo Azul has set design by Marta Silva and music by Miguel Rimbaud.
