Nanoscience finds its way


PARTICLES - Technician manipulates mask for microfabrication at the Semiconductor Components Center. Unicamp has at least 20 working groups working in the areas of nanotechnology and nanoscience. A workshop will bring together researchers from both areas on June 5th and 6th. page 9

Historian profiles the immigrants who left Italy destroyed by the Second World War, evaluating their influence on the Brazilian economy. Unlike the patricians who came in waves in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these postwar Italians were literate, enterprising, and boasted a trade. Pages 6 and 7

Drugs control the spread of farm disease
