The Innovation Agency is born

The Unicamp Innovation Agency (Inovacamp) will be launched on May 15th, an institutional mechanism that aims to strengthen the University's network of relationships with society, aiming to increase teaching, research and knowledge advancement activities. According to rector Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz, Inovacamp will articulate partnerships and facilitate projects developed by companies and public authorities. Page 3

food and health
Thesis defended at the Faculty of Food Engineering (FEA) by researcher Ana Lúcia Penteado (photo) stated that the lack of hygiene when handling fruit increases the risks of contamination by microorganisms. Two other FEA studies evaluate the anti-inflammatory action of omega-3, a beneficial fat found in fish, in the body. At the Biology Institute, research is investigating nutritional supplementation based on leucine, an important amino acid for cancer patients. page 6

Fertilizer - Researchers from Embrapa and Unicamp's Faculty of Agricultural Engineering (Feagri) developed software that guides farmers in using urban waste compost (CLU) as fertilizer for various crops. The tool, known as the Expert System (SE), was convinced to be installed next to waste composting plants. page 8
