Discoveries at sea, in the sky, on land and in the body

Zeca Buarque and Nelson Pereira dos Santos

Jornal da Unicamp publishes four reports in this edition that have in common the originality of the research covered: the identification of the gene that causes four rare diseases, in a study initiated by doctor and professor Carlos Eduardo Steiner, from FCM; the crater that was formed by the impact of a celestial body, discovered in Paraná by professor Álvaro Crósta, from IG; the pioneering work in the field of underwater archeology, coordinated by professor and historian Pedro Funari, from NEE, and, finally, the team of researcher Douglas Soares Galvão, from the Institute of Physics, who is inspired by biology to seek unusual solutions in the field of nanotechnology.
