Brazilian identity becomes a topic in Portugal

Professor and historian Edgar de Decca (top right) opens this week a Unicamp chair at the Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa (ISCTE), based in Lisbon. The course program includes an unpublished thesis by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda on Portuguese society at the time of the Discoveries, found by De Decca in the collection donated to Unicamp by the intellectual's family. In an interview with Jornal da Unicamp, the professor assesses the importance of Buarqui's work, talks about the University's contribution to Brazilian historiography and evaluates the identity bonds between Brazil and Portugal.

Ana Fonseca's challenges

Appointed special advisor to the President of the Republic's office, sociologist and researcher Ana Fonseca, from the Public Policy Studies Center at Unicamp (NEPP), states that the government's biggest challenge is “overcoming poverty and inequalities”. Ana Fonseca is responsible for unifying income transfer programs.

The thousand applications of biosensors

Biosensors are devices capable of measuring in real time the presence of substances in blood, urine, medicines, food, and the environment. The biggest difficulty for professor Lauro Kubota, from IQ, is to convince everyone that a simple device with a ridiculous price presents results as reliable as those obtained by equipment from large analysis laboratories
