From practice to theory

The Secretary of Economic Development of Sorocaba, Luiz Christiano Leite da Silva, used the strategic plan project designed by him and successfully implemented in the municipality (photo) in 1997, to provide theoretical support for his master's thesis presented at Unicamp. The study shows how a public management tool can benefit citizens, especially in terms of quality of life and social indicators.

Few surprises at the Nobel

Professor Fernando Costa (photo), Pro-Rector of Research at Unicamp, signed two articles with the American doctor Peter Agre, one of the winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Unicamp professors and researchers analyze the choice of laureates in other areas.

Goals for university hospitals

Doctor Gastão Wagner
de Souza (photo), executive secretary of the Ministry of Health and professor at FCM, reveals that the government intends to change
the financing policy
of the 45 university hospitals in the country, which would start working with goals. Establishments accumulate debt
of R$290 million.

Theory that became practice

Researchers from Unicamp and three other institutions have just completed a project that validates a methodology for monitoring and evaluating food security and insecurity conditions. Unprecedented in the country, the methodology should be used in 2004 by IBGE. Preliminary work was carried out in Campinas, Manaus, Brasília and João Pessoa (on the right in the photo, doctor Ana Maria Segall Corrêa, from Unicamp, during a work meeting in the city).
