PROJECT THE FUTURE
This edition of Jornal da Unicamp shows, through four different themes, how the Brazil of the past is present and projects the future. At 5 page, professors Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro and Marco Aurélio Garcia narrate episodes from the Edgar Leuenroth Archive (AEL), which is the depository of a large part of the country's union memory and turns 30 this year. At 6 page, professors Gildo Marçal Brandão and Walquiria Leão Rego analyze the resumption of the discussion about the nation as a project. Professor Maria Celina Soares D'Araújo evaluates, in 7 page, what remains of the estate of Getúlio Vargas, whose death marks 50 years. Finally, in 8 page, professor Marisa Lajolo reveals details of her recently released book, How and why to read the Brazilian novel.

A master's thesis presented at Unicamp's Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FEM) has just won the international prize at the Congress of the International Society of Petroleum Engineers, held in Houston at the end of September. The author of the award-winning study, Francisco Exaltação Trevisan, demonstrated that, by injecting water into the pipe, without any additional equipment, it was possible to increase the oil flow by seven times, saving energy. The dissertation was supervised by professor Antonio Carlos Bannwart.

On the trail of sex tourism
Researcher Adriana Piscitelli (photo), from the Gender Studies Center (Pagu) at Unicamp, visited prostitution spots in Fortaleza to support research on international sexual tourism. The study will be turned into a book.
