Law and State – The Center for Strategic Studies (NEE) and the Study Group on Law and State, of the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (IFCH), will hold on the 9th and 10th, starting at 9:30 am, in the IFCH auditorium, the II International Colloquium Law and State – “Imperialism and State Terrorism”. In the opening session, professor Domenico Losurdo, from the University of Urbino (Italy), gives the conference “Liberal institutions, the crusade against terrorism and the Rule of Law”. The debater will be professor Marcos Del Roio (Unesp/Marília). The round tables also include the themes “Imperialism, national sovereignty, international legal order”, “Imperialism and national sovereignty in Latin America” and “State terrorism and human rights”. Open to the public, the meeting is coordinated by professors João Quartim de Moraes and Ligia Maria Osório Silva, from NEE.

Digital inclusion - The Permanent Forum “Digital Inclusion” takes place on the 10th, from 9am to 17pm, in the auditorium of the Higher Center for Technological Education (Ceset). Natural disasters - The Climate Studies Laboratory of the Geosciences Institute (IG) at Unicamp organizes on the 11th, from 14 pm, in the auditorium of the General Directorate of Administration (DGA), a round table and presentation of research in the form of panels on natural disasters . The meeting marks the International Day for the Prevention of Natural Disasters, a date established by the United Nations. The organization is led by professor Lucí Hidalgo Nunes. Engenheiro Caetano Álvares, 55, São Paulo), scientist Crodowaldo Pavan, former president of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), will receive the Professor Emeritus Award 2006 – Education Warrior Trophy, awarded annually by the Business-School Integration Center (CIEE) and the newspaper O Estado de S. CoMAU – The XV Unicamp Academic Medical Congress (CoMAU) “Public Health and Medical Education” takes place from October 16th to 18th, from 18pm to 22:30pm, in the FCM auditorium, organized by medical students. Cuban doctor Aleida Guevara March discusses the topic “Public Policies in Cuba” and neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis, from Duke University Medical Center, addresses “Neural Chips”. Nicoelis was nominated as one of the 50 world science leaders by Scientific American magazine and his personal project is the construction of the International Neuroscience Institute, on the outskirts of Natal (RN). Cotil Selection – Unicamp's Limeira Technical College (Cotil) receives applications for the 2007 selection exam until October 10th. They can be done online (www.exame2007.cotil.unicamp.br), at Cotil and in authorized courses. The registration office at the College is open from 9am to 21pm. Cotil offers higher secondary technical education for candidates who have primary education or are completing the 8th grade. These are daytime courses in Civil Construction, Civil Construction, Nursing, Geomatics, IT, Mechanics and Quality and Productivity; in the evening, IT, Mechanics and Quality and Productivity. All with 40 places. Technical supplementation is offered to students who have already completed high school or are currently studying it. There are 40 places for evening courses in Civil Construction, Geomatics, IT, Mechanics and Quality and Productivity or Nursing in the afternoon.

For pregnant women – Until October 10, the Limeira Technical College (Cotil) receives applications from pregnant women interested in the “Psychoprophylactic for childbirth” course. It will start on October 11th. The course consists of theoretical and practical classes and aims to reduce anxiety, offering information for the well-being of the pregnant woman and her baby. Lectures will be given by professionals in the areas of psychology, nutrition, speech therapy and dentistry. Classes take place every Wednesday, from 13:30 pm to 15 pm, at Cotil. Cotuca Selection – The Unicamp Technical College (Cotuca) receives, until October 20th, applications for the 2007 Selection Process. There are 780 vacancies distributed among the technical courses in Food, Electronics, Nursing, IT, Mechanics, Plastics, Occupational Safety, Environmental Technician, Telecommunications and Medical-Hospital Equipment, and specialization courses in Quality and Productivity Management, Mechanical Projects and Metallic Materials. Online registration only: http://www.cotuca.unicamp.br/exame. The registration fee is R$35 and can be paid at Banco Banespa, Centro, Campos Sales and Unicamp branches.
