Unicamp will, in the near future, have a chair at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) for matters related to Argentina. The agreement, which also provides for the installation of a Unicamp chair at UBA, was signed by deans Guilhermo Jaim Etcheverry and Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz, who led a university mission visiting Argentina and Chile. The delegation's objective was to strengthen academic relations with institutions in neighboring countries and attract postgraduate students to Unicamp. In addition to UBA, four other universities in both countries expressed interest in promoting joint projects with Unicamp.

Unicamp's Strategic Planning (Planes), an instrument that allows the University to be charted in the medium and long term, has just entered its second stage of implementation. Started in 2000, when several administrative actions were defined, the process now involves awareness-raising work among the internal community. According to vice-rector José Tadeu Jorge, who has debated with members of the congregations the main aspects involved in the preparation of Planes, the idea is to encourage spontaneous participation in discussions that will guide the future of the Institution.Page 6
At least 17 ongoing research projects at Unicamp were affected by cuts in funding from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Two manifestos from the scientific community ask the government to resize resources for the country's main research funding agency. Page 3
Research developed by the Institute of Biology (IB) maps the bacterium Escherichia coli, which causes several diseases, including avian colibacillosis, the incidence of which is 5% to 10% of the production of chickens in the country. The researchers intend to develop a vaccine in the future that neutralizes the action of the bacteria.
