Researchers Elza Berquó and Estela Cunha, from the Center for Population Studies (Nepo), will join the Technical Committee on Health of the Black Population, a body recently created by the Ministry of Health. Nepo has been developing, for 20 years, pioneering work in studies on mortality, morbidity, fertility, nuptiality and family structure of the black population.

Visual anthropology – Crab walks in Vitória mangrove, in an image from the book “Os Argonautas do Mangue”, by André Alves, whose introduction entitled “Balinese Character (Re)visited”, written by professor Etienne Samain, refers to the work of Gregory Bateson and Margaret Mead , considered a landmark in visual anthropology. Alves, who was guided by Samain, uses the methodology adopted by Bateson and Mead to show how crab farmers live on the island of Vitória, the capital of Espírito Santo.
