In a recent speech at Palácio da Alvorada, official residence of the country’s President, the Brazilian leader made claims about the electoral process in Brazil which are unsupported by facts, and that were motive for outrage and embarrassment both nationally and internationally.
In the face of such allegations, the University of Campinas (Unicamp), consonant with its ethical and political stand on democratic values, comes forward in support of the Supreme Electoral Court (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral – TSE), emphasizing the importance and seriousness of its mission, particularly with regard to the electronic ballot system in use since 1996.
Unicamp is an active member of the Transparency Commission for the Electoral Process (Comissão de Transparência das Eleições) and has recently established a partnership with TSE, along with other universities, to strengthen monitoring tools and the transparency of the voting process. This University is convinced that such actions stress the commitment of these institutions to the continuous improvement of the voting system, its integrity, and the people’s sovereignty.
Aligned with the principles of the 1988 Brazilian Constitution, Unicamp reaffirms its commitment to the truth and rejects any acts that may contribute to the disruption of the constitutional order.
